It was a the first official meet for the year, held at the St. James’ raceway, on Sunday 12th March and very early after the set 2 pm start, it was decided to change the routine a bit and allow the Drag racers to face off in terms of grudge matches.

INTER PRIMARY VENUE REMAINS THE SAME

The Gulf Insurance Interprimary School Championship dubbed the Mini Olympics will once again be held at the Elquemedo T. Willett Park on, April 4, 2017. The ‘Mini Olympics’ was originally scheduled to be held at the XCD $10 million Mondo track.

The Premier of Nevis and Minister in charge of Education, Hon. Vance Amory made the official announcement on Friday, March 10, 2017. The MONDO track is being built by LEFCO Construction Company and Surrey Paving and will cost an estimated XCD $10 million. Upon completion, the facility will feature a FIFA certified football pitch and an IAAF certified Mondo all-weather 400 meter athletic track with nine lanes.

According to Premier Vance Amory, after much discussion, the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) has decided to advise the general public and the schools that Interprimary will once again be held again at the ETW Park.

Premier Amory noted that the logistics of having the track and having the amenities that will enable Nevis to host the Interprimary championship have proven to be a little slower in being realized. Premier Amory also stated that the track will be completed. He also stated that the NIA had to look at the completion of the main pavilion for the athletes and officials, and also the necessary facilities needed for the bathrooms thus taking a bit longer than expected.

Premier Amory also indicated that before making the announcement, he discussed the issue with members of Cabinet, the technical persons involved with the construction, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Wakely Daniel and Principals of the various schools.

Premier Amory indicated that the decision will ensure that the “Mini Olympics” be hosted at the very high standard that the people of Nevis have become accustomed to.
