IS THE LEADERSHIP CRISIS A CAUSE FOR CRIME?

St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be embroiled in a mess of murderous criminal activity with the three murders occurring within four days this past week even as our political parties were embroiled in a pitiful leadership struggle over the past week.

What is pitiful about the struggle for leadership in St. Kitts and Nevis is the fact that those involved are not struggling to empower the nation’s economy which is plunging into chaos nor are they struggling to empower the people who are left unemployed, broke angry and disenfranchised, rater, they are in a struggle for their own individual self-promotion and enrichment at the expense of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

This fact is proven in the words of Junior Minister Hazel Brandy-Williams as published in the Observer newspaper last week where she said words to the effect that ‘I always wanted to run for elected office and accepting this job (as junior Minister) is the first step in that direction”

The expressions and conduct of the Minister’s colleagues are no different. Vance Amory in an interview televised to the nation and the world said words to the effect that “he accepted a more important employment in Basseterre as a Minister in the Federal Cabinet. Where does this leave the people of Nevis who elected him as a Minister to serve their interest?

Minister of Brantley’s disregard for the people of Nevis is evident in the fact that he has activity participated in a real estate deal on behalf of his family’s real estate company as a minister in both cabinets, when he used his government issued email address to assist his wife’s company in making commissions of over US$70,000.00 or over EC$200,000.00.

The people of Nevis must now judge for themselves whether or not the treatment meted out to them by the leadership of the CCM government is acceptable for another 5 years.

It is this papers humble opinion that this type of example set by politicians is the root caused of decadence and crime and chaos in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Many who witness the demise of this country over the past four years under CCM rule and the two years under the governance of the Team Unity Government has no option but to conclude that the leadership crisis is the problems we face with crime and the economy.
